Ever wanted to know what it's like to be a firefighter?

Well, visitors to Montgomery next weekend will get just that chance as the town's fire station hosts an open day.

Montgomery Fire Station is opening its doors to the public to promote the service to potential new recruits and showcase the services they provide to the community and further afield, including its recently added capabilities in water rescue.

It will also allow children, families and the community to see the station and facilities and will include a range of activities.

The event takes place on 2 June from 2pm until 6pm.

Crew Manager, Shaun Rees said: "The station is planning an exciting opportunity for the public to learn about what we do and the requirements to become an on-call firefighter.”

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for providing emergency response cover to nearly 12,000 square kms - almost two-thirds of Wales.

On-Call Firefighters are an essential part of the service with 75% of local fire stations, like Montgomery, crewed entirely by On-Call Firefighters.

Shaun added: "As soon as the doors open, there will be an opportunity to try on a firefighter's kit, view different types of equipment we carry, ask the crew questions and lots more.
