Monty aim for Central Wales semi

15/03/2013 @ 05:35

In what is shaping up to be a thrilling weekend of action across Mid Wales, there are big matches at both Montgomery and Llanfair on Saturday.

Montgomery are hoping to take Montgomeryshire representation into the semi final of the Central Wales Cup when they entertain Tywyn Bryncrug at 2pm.

But all eyes will be on Llanfair United who know that victory over main rivals Llandrindod Wells could virtually seal promotion to Spar One, while placing a hand on the Spar Two trophy at the same time.

Rhys Stephens’s Llanfair side have brought an added buzz to the local scene this season with 15 wins and a draw from 16 league matches, and their Division One destiny is in their own hands.

Elsewhere, Huws Gray Alliance giants Rhyl bring their army of support to Guilsfield who have gatecrashed the top seven places and, with games in hand, could easily cement a top six finish.

Llanrhaeadr’s fight to avoid finishing bottom continues at home to Porthmadog while Caersws travel to Penycae desperate to build on their thumping of Ruthin last week to pressurise the top three.

Welshpool Town, on the back of three Spar One victories from four games, face a test at impressive Aberystwyth University while Waterloo Rovers, knocked out of the Central Wales Cup last week, entertain Carno.

Four Crosses go to struggling Dyffryn Banw while Llansantffraid Village hope to end a miserable run of form at Aberaeron. Leaders Llanidloes entertain Berriew who refuse to give up the chase at the top.

The majority of Spar Two sides are involved in the E.R. Jenkins Cup with Abermule and Kerry both at home against Bont and Talgarth respectively and Llanfyllin taking on Aberdyfi.

In the amateur league, Guilsfield Reserves and Caersws Reserves clash tonight in the Village Cup at Llansantffraid, while tomorrow’s big match sees Newtown Wanderers and Newtown Reserves clash in Mitsubishi Two.

As always, please check with your club for kick off times as they may be different due to the rugby.
