Berriew bowlers are Welsh champs

Berriew Ladies have won the delayed 2019 Welsh Bowls Double Rink Championships.

The final against Brynhyfryd was postponed in 2019 and faced further delays when Covid struck, finally going ahead yesterday (Friday) when hosted by Welsh Womens Bowling Association president Alison Wilsher at Islwyn Bowling Club, near Newport.

The double rink competition was played over 21 ends with Brynhyfryd forced to concede defeat after 19 ends.

The rink of Kathy Pearce, Emma Gittins, Mary Garrett and Eileen Williams gave Berriew an early lead and after a slow start the rink of Caroline Taylor, Isabel Jones, Hazel Wilson and Nerys Lewis came good to secure the victory.
