A by-election has been confirmed for the Llanidloes county council seat following the resignation of Gareth Morgan earlier this month, Powys County Council has announced.
Mr Morgan had been the longest serving Powys county councillor, having first been elected 50 years ago.
The electoral process will begin immediately, with prospective candidates having until 4pm on Friday, 6th June 2025 to submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officer. The notice of election has already been published, marking the start of the formal procedure.
Should the election be contested, polling will take place on Thursday, 3rd July 2025.
Residents who are not currently registered to vote have until Tuesday, 17th June 2025 to complete their registration in order to participate in this election. Registration can be completed online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.
The council has also outlined important deadlines for alternative voting arrangements. Those wishing to vote by post, or who need to change or cancel an existing postal vote application, must ensure their requests reach the Electoral Registration Officer at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells by 5pm on Wednesday, 18th June 2025.
For residents requiring proxy voting arrangements, applications must be submitted to the Electoral Registration Officer at the same address by 5pm on Wednesday, 25th June 2025. Proxy application forms are available on the Powys County Council website.
