Local businesses from Montgomeryshire have been honoured at this year's Countryside Alliance Award, with businesses from Newtown and Llanidloes among those celebrated.
The ceremony, now in its 18th year, was hosted by Hannah Thomas, the award-winning Rural Affairs Correspondent for ITV Wales, who presented accolades to finalists from across the country at the Senedd in Cardiff.
Founded to support and promote rural communities, the awards celebrate individuals and businesses that go the extra mile to ensure that rural Britain's food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills and forward-thinking enterprises can succeed.
Four Montgomeryshire businesses reached the Welsh finals this year, including Woosnam and Davies in Llanidloes, which won the Highly Commended award in the Village Shop & Post Office category, and Gazm Drinks near Newtown, which received a Highly Commended award in the Local Food and Drink category.
The other two local finalists were Ricky Lloyd Butchers in Welshpool, finishing as runner-up in the Best Butchers category, and Fork Handles Farm Shop in Llangedwyn, which also received a Highly Commended award in the Local Food and Drink category.
Thousands of nominations from around the country were evaluated through a public vote, with the final few being honoured at the Welsh finalists' awards ceremony.
Russell George, Montgomeryshire Senedd Member, attended the event and praised the businesses for representing Montgomeryshire. "These awards provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase the hardworking local entrepreneurs who are helping rural Wales flourish," he said.
"The quality of local produce in Montgomeryshire is outstanding and there are many businesses and community champions deserving of national recognition. The four Montgomeryshire finalists have done the constituency proud and have showcased the very best of rural Montgomeryshire."
The awards shine a spotlight on those individuals and enterprises that go above and beyond for their communities, keeping rural life thriving through innovation, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. From local food producers and independent retailers to community hubs and young rural entrepreneurs, the 2025 finalists showcased the best of Wales' countryside.
