Plea for volunteers to help people with deafness

23/07/2024 @ 11:26

A plea has been made for more volunteers to help a charity for people with deafness as it attempts to run more drop-in surgeries in the area.

The call for help came during last night's Newtown Town Council full meeting when Joanne Hobson, Development Manager for the Royal National Institute for the Blind spoke to councillors.

She was updating them on the services the charity provides in Powys, including a drop in surgery at the town's library where people can have help reducing the build up of wax in their ears or have tibes on their hearing aids changed.

The drop in events are held on the last Friday of the month between 10am and 1pm.

She said they hoped to restart similar surgeries in Llanidloes and Welshpool this year, but more volunteers are needed.

"The majority of the volunteers are coming from mid Powys and so we need more from this area," she said during a Teams call.

Hearing aid and community volunteers are needed.
