Food firm's retro application for temporary canteen

21/07/2020 @ 07:17
A meat processing factory near Llanidloes has applied for part-retrospective planning permission to place a portable building at its site to be used as a canteen following the coronavirus situation.

The application has been made by Randall Parker Foods at its Oakley Park base near Llanidloes for the ‘Portakabin Limited Ultima’ canteen building, which is 3.15 metres in height, 12.23 metres in width and 10.17 metres in length.

It has an overall floor space of 117sq metres.

Agent, Umar Abid of Portakabin Ltd, said in a design and access statement for the proposal, “This application seeks temporary planning permission for the installation of a canteen building for a three year hire period terminating in 2023.

“Due to Covid-19 restrictions on social distancing and limited space in the existing  canteen, the proposed Portakabin Ltd building will be installed
and linked onto the existing building to provide additional canteen facilities and allow social distancing.”

“There will be no need for the building installation to break any ground.

“The foundations are simple concrete slabs mortared onto the existing tarmac surface, therefore no land contamination investigations will be needed.

“The Portakabin Limited Ultima canteen building will be connected to the existing Randall Parker Foods building by a bespoke link unit construction.”

Mr Abid added: “The proposed development is located in the existing car parking area and will not affect any existing vehicle or pedestrian access to site.”

He also explains that the building can be  can also be “easily removed” from site with little impact when it’s not needed anymore.

The abattoir was formerly owned by Hamer International, who were taken over by Randall Parker in 2016.

The company say they are a “lamb specialist” and sell meat for retail and wholesale in the UK and abroad.
