Two charities have benefited from an event marking the 25th anniversary of a Newtown based company.
The Heulwen Trust and Prostate Cymru attended celebrations for the anniversary of CEF which held a party at Greenhous Ford Transit Centre as part of a fun day.
Paul Martin, Group Manager of CEF, explained the reasons behind the event saying: “We like to get involved in our local communities wherever CEF branches are operating.
"This is an opportunity for us to say thank you to our customers for their patronage of our company over the past 25 years. We also invited the local fire brigade and two charities that we selected for our support this year. Prostate Cymru and the Heulwen Trust.
"Both play an important role in our community with reference to health issues and support for disadvantaged children and adults respectively.
“Our thanks go to Tony Mellish and his staff for accommodating us in this fabulous venue at Greenhous Ford. We have been made to feel very welcome.”
It was lovely to see children attending with their parents adding a family feel to the evening. David Corfield is the Chairman of the Heulwen Trust from Welshpool. He attended along with his wife, Rozanne who is the vice-Chair.
Rozanne gave details of the workings of the Trust: “We are a charity organisation whose aim is to bring enjoyment and pleasure to disabled children and adults. We do this by offering exciting scenic canal boat trips through some of the most beautiful Welsh countryside.
“We have two canal boats which are specially adapted to carry disabled children on board. They are wheelchair friendly and run mostly by volunteers. However, we also have groups of older people with disabilities, for example MS or blindness, who come on board for trips with their families. We also offer private hire through our website.”
The Heulwen Trust’s major fund-raising event of the year is the highly popular Country and Western Music Festival held from the 14th to the 16th July at the Powis Castle Showground courtesy of the Earl of Powis. Local, national and international performers attend and many people dress appropriately for the occasion.
Dai John, Head of awareness for Prostate Cymru, was delighted to be given the opportunity to speak to many men at the event about the importance of men’s health and early diagnosis of prostate cancer, which is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in men. 1 in 8 Welsh men are affected by the disease. Prostate Cymru have a current campaign called #SaveTheMalesInWales.
So CEF really did live up to its intention of being a company based in its community with support for these charities whilst also giving something back to the people who have supported them.
