Councillors are set to vote for the town mayor for the next financial year.
The incumbent is Cllr Peter Lewington who has only held the position since September following the resignation of Cllr Mike Childs.
The current deputy mayor is Cllr Margaret Lewington. Most years the deputy is elected by councillors, but Cllr Peter Lewintgton could be re-elected as he has only held the post for a short time.
In his report to Tuesday night's full council meeting he said: "I was delighted and honoured to have been elected Mayor at the full council meeting on 23rd September 2024 and I would like to once again thank my fellow councillors for their support and the trust they have placed in
me. I remain deeply grateful for the confidence they have shown and I will always strive to repay that trust by fulfilling this role to the best of my ability.
"If I have ever fallen short of expectations, I hope my genuine commitment to listening, understanding and taking action to address concerns has demonstrated my dedication to working collaboratively with all councillors and staff. Moving forward I will continue to do my
utmost to maintain and strengthen the team spirit we have built so that together we can continue to serve our community to the very best of our abilities."
He added: "I greatly appreciate the collaborative working between councillors and staff to deliver for our residents and our staff deserve special thanks for the hard work and effort that they put into their roles especially during recent times when we have been short staffed.
"I would like to thank Cllr Margaret as Deputy Mayor for the support she has given me in the role and I'd also very much like to thank the behind the scenes team of Officers all of whom have supported me and given me a nudge when I forget things and ensure the smooth running of things."
Councillors will consider nominations for the mayor and deputy mayor before voting if contested.
