One of Welshpool’s most popular restaurants is on the move with Bistro 7 set to relocate eight miles down the road to Montgomery.
Bistro 7 has been trading in Welshpool since early 2012 and has built up an excellent local reputation for its food and drink. However, the business is restricted by its current size, with only 12 tables available and a very small kitchen.
Bistro 7 owners Brian, the Head Chef, and wife Vicky Jones have been looking to expand for some time to be able to cater for larger numbers and also for weddings, beer festivals and music events.
The Dragon Hotel in Montgomery was purchased in July 2013 by a consortium of local people. The hotel is being refurbished over a period of time and has just opened its new larger bar area, which has been very well received, and will have the ability to cater for up to 80 people within the hotel.
The hotel has also taken on running the bar at the nearby Montgomery Town Hall and is working to promote Montgomery and Montgomery Town Hall for all sorts of attractive wedding packages.
Co-owner Mark Cadwallader says: “We have been looking for a local team of chefs to come and work with us at The Dragon Hotel as part of our longer-term plans. I was made aware that Brian and Vicky were looking for an opportunity to move to larger premises and knowing their extremely good reputation for food and drink, I approached them to see if they would be interested in bringing Bistro 7 to The Dragon Hotel Montgomery.
“It has now been agreed that Bistro 7 at The Dragon Hotel Montgomery, will be starting in early January 2016 and we are delighted to be working with Brian and Vicky”.
Brian and Vicky said: “We have been looking for an opportunity like this for some time and with all the major potential of the refurbished Dragon Hotel, we feel this is just too good an opportunity to miss.
“We have loyalties at Bistro 7, Welshpool with our Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties in the weeks ahead, but we are already making plans to move our Bistro 7 brand to Montgomery early in the New Year.
“We have a fantastic community at the Bistro and we know that some will be disappointed that we are moving seven miles up the road to Montgomery. We have made some amazing friends here in Welshpool, and we are hoping we are still going to see them on a regular basis in Montgomery.
“So our existing Bistro family and new ‘bistronauts’ will have no excuses but to follow us – we will provide a Bistro Bus at weekends and for special events”.
Bistro 7 meal vouchers can be used in Montgomery from January.
Hotel owner Mark Cadwallader said: “We think the excellent Bistro 7 brand and offer is going to work extremely well with what we are looking to do at The Dragon Hotel and already from our discussions we see we are going to enjoy working with Brian, Vicky and the Bistro 7 team. We are looking forward to welcoming them and their loyal customers to Montgomery”.
