Football matches could be cancelled this weekend

Common sense has finally prevailed after clubs were issued guidance over cancelling football matches due to baked-hard pitches.

With the season starting in the middle of our hottest ever summer, pitched have become dangerous with a number of injuries already reported over the past fortnight.

And this morning the Football Association of Wales issued guidance to clubs and referees saying that “Local Authority and venue owners have primary responsibility for determining if public facilities are open and fit to play”.

They add that match officials, alongside the home and away teams managers, retain the final authority on matchday to assess if a pitch is safe to play.
