Commonwealth Games bronze for Dan

The dream has come true for local swimmer Dan Jones after he won a long-awaited medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last night.

The 29-year-old was joined by Team Wales teammates Matt Richards, Rebecca Sutton and Theodora Taylor to claim bronze in the Mixed 4x100m Freestyle Relay with a new Welsh record time.

It was a wonderful moment for the team, but in particular for Dan who finished in fourth place four times four years ago.

But there was no such problem last night as he followed Matt into the people in second, then got behind his two teammates Rebecca and Theodora to scream them home in third.

The race was won by favourites Australia, with England finishing just ahead of Wales in second.

And Dan is far from done yet!

After last night’s excitement, he will be rested for this morning’s heats and if Team Wales qualify, he will race in tonight’s 4x200m Freestyle final.

Dan is one of three former Welshpool High School pupils competing for Team Wales with Adele Nicoll throwing in the shotput this week and Joshua Whitehouse competing in judo towards the end of the multi-sport event.
