Opener Ben Price smashed a wonderful opening day century to lead Newtown to a 141-run victory over Madeley in the Shropshire Premier League.
Price hit 104 from 108 balls to guided Newtown through to 275-6 after being put in to bat. Jordan Baijnath (43) and Tom Leslie (32no) also contributed.
Nathan Smith then led the attach with 5-45 to ensure the hosts were dismissed well short on 134.
Montgomery’s 212 at Shifnal II wasn’t enough as they went down to a defeat on their return to Division One.
Andrew Roscow top scored for Monty with 39, but the hosts mastered the conditions to race home in the 42nd over with five wickets to spare.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio pulled off a thrilling win in Division Three following a superb innings from Nasir Udin who pulled victory from the jaws of defeat.
Hosts Newport II batted first for 189-9 with Sandeep Salin taking 3-37 on his return to the village.
But the response stuttered at the start, before pace bowler Udin came to the crease at seven and remained unbeaten on 69 to ensure the Guils started the season with a one-wicket victory.
Also, in Division Three, Welshpool suffered a disappointing nine-wicket defeat at home to Condover after being dismissed for 132. Joe Monk top score on 32.
Llanidloes came out on top in the Division Four Mid Wales derby against Newtown II, thanks largely to an impressive 82 in 70 balls from Rob Davies and 53 from Josh Hugo.
They guided Llanidloes through to 201, which was out of reach for Newtown II who finished on 175-9, despite 79 from Mike Bellamore. Eogan Jones took 3-25.
Welshpool II had a day to forget in Division Five after being bowled out for just 33 chasing Pontesbury’s 262-8.
It was a similar story at Guilsfield & Llandrinio II who were bowled out for 71 at their LHG Oval by Acton Reynald who cruised to an eight-wicket victory in Division Six.
But it was better news for Montgomery II who picked up an opening day win at home to Forton II.
Gaz Bromley top scored with 66 as Monty set a target of 154-8 from their 40 overs, before they bowled the visitors out for 137 with wickets shared between six bowlers.
