Former Newtown cricketer Joe Monk has been snapped up for a season Down Under after signing for Australian side Woodend.
Monk has impressed for the past two seasons with Shropshire Premier League side Oswestry, and was unveiled as a new signing for the Melbourne-based club last night.
He told us that “I can’t wait to get started” after the club announced: “We’re delighted to announce the arrival of Joe Monk, to join us at Woodend Cricket Club this summer!
“Joe brings with him a wealth of talent and experience as a Medium Fast Seam Bowler, currently showcasing his skills at Oswestry Cricket Club in the Shropshire County Cricket League (Premier Division).
“Joe's cricket journey includes impressive stints at Newtown Cricket Club, where he secured an outstanding 107 wickets at just 12, and Welshpool Cricket Club with 109 wickets at an average of 17.
“His prowess on the field is matched by his passion for coaching, holding qualifications that make him a valuable addition to both our senior and junior coaching structure.
“Joe will be joining us as an Assistant Coach to Josh Eastley, our new Head Coach, and we’re thrilled to have him on board to mentor and inspire our players.”
Monk will be heading to Australia at the end of the summer with his partner Ashlyn Brown.
