Newtown fans are sniffing another European adventure after moving up to second place in the JD Cymru League.

The Robins won 4-2 at Aberystwyth last night to go above Flint in the race for runners-up spot behind runaway leaders The New Saints.

Nick Rushton was a first half hero with goals in the fourth and 18th minute as Newtown got off to a breath-taking start but Sam Philips gave Aber fresh hope with a 51st minute reply.

But Rushton wasn’t to be outdone and completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later and James Davies made it 4-1 on 76 minutes. Rhys Davies grabbed a last minute consolation goal for the Seasiders.

Berriew won the local derby in the Lock Stock Ardal North East League, coming from behind to beat neighbours Welshpool Town 5-1 at The Maesydre Recreation Ground.

James Clewlow gave Pool an 18th minute lead following a poor clearance from goalkeeper Ryan Edkins only to see Jack Williams level on 34 minutes when Jon Jones headed a left-wing corner back across goal for Williams to rifle the ball in.

Pool had early chances in the second half to go ahead but missed the target and were then punished for defensive errors.

Joe Haycock made it 2-1 on the hour and seven minutes later Ed Baker got a third. A disheartened Pool side then conceded goals to a Callum Greatorex own goal a second goal for Baker.
