Evans grabs late Newtown winner

Created on 13/04/2021 @ 07:37

A 92nd minute winner from Jordan Evans gave Newtown the three JD Cymru League points at Aberystwyth.

Despite going behind to a first half header from Aberystwyth’s Marc Williams The Robins were full value for their first win since the mid-season split.

Williams gave The Seasiders the lead four minutes before the break when he rose to head in a corner

Striker Ofori gave Newtown hope with a 75th minute equaliser when he was found in space in the box to turn past his man and put the ball past Pennock to level the scoring.

Jamie Breese headed narrowly over from inside the box before substitute Jordan Evans had a powerful effort blocked heroically by Jack Thorn.

Evans wasn’t to be denied however, as in the dying minutes, he drove an effort past Pennock, cueing wild celebrations from the Robins.

Newtown: Dave Jones, Sean McAllister, Kieran Mills-Evans, Nick Rushton, James Davies (Jamie Breese 70’), Craig Williams (C), Tyrone Ofori, Ryan Edwards (76’) (Jordan Evans 76’), Shane Sutton, Alex Fletcher, Callum Roberts
