Ladies in form

Local ladies’ hockey clubs can enter the Christmas break feeling upbeat following a decent run of November form.

Llanfair Caereinion picked up two North Wales League wins from two in November over Pwllheli and Dysynni to pull level on points with Newtown in second, but with a game in hand.

Newtown’s recent run also included comfortable wins over Dysynni and Pwllheli, but they are still trailing high flying Ardudwy who remain clear after six wins from six games.

Welshpool picked up an important 4-1 win over Caernarfon to ease any relegation concerns, but on Saturday they beat Bangor 1-0 in the Cup, despite a bare 11 that included four juniors and two debutantes in Rachel Williams and Celyn Poyner. Sonja Evans scored the crucial goal to send the ladies into Christmas in good spirits.
