A road collapse causing delays on a main road between Newtown and Machynlleth is likely to be repaired in October.

The hole casued part of the A470 to collapse at Talerdig, close to Carno, in November last year.

Traffic lights have allowed motorists to travel on the section which is the main trunk road linking North, Mid, and South Wales.

The Welsh Government has confirmed an assessment of the situation has been completed and repairs will be made in October.

In a response to Montgomeryshire Senedd Member, Russell George, the Cabinet Secretary for the Economy and Transport, Ken Skates MS, confirmed that the detailed design for the permanent repair to the wall had been finalised.

Mr George has also taken up other road safety issues at Talerddig following accidents near the junction to the Bont Dolgadfan road and by Tyrpeg.

Commenting, Mr George said: “I have had an update on the repair works to be carried out on the trunk road at Talerddig following the road collapse in November last year. The Cabinet Secretary has confirmed to me that the detailed design for the permanent repair to the wall has been finalised. Work is currently programmed to commence in October for completion this calendar year."

“I have also taken up further road safety issues at Talerddig following accidents near the junction to the Bont Dolgadfan road and by Tyrpeg. There is a need for road safety improvements to address the dangers of the layout of this section of the road.”
