Red Cross wins festive window competition

The British Red Cross shop in Newtown has won the 2023 Festive Window Wonderland competition.

The "Mayor's Choice" winner was announced today follwing judging on Saturday.

The public is now being urged to judge the windows and their winner will be announced by the town council on Friday.

Members of the council's Economy and Environment Committee were told there had been 32 entries.

The British Red Cross, located on Shortbridge Street, was awarded the coveted 'Mayor's Choice' accolade for "their outstanding display."

"Congratulations to the British Red Cross for capturing the festive spirit with such creativity," said the town council.

Nail Envy, situated on Market Street, earned the well-deserved title of 'Runner-Up' for "their impressive contribution to the 'Festive Window Wonderland' competition."

While the Mayor's Choice winners have been selected, there's still time for the public to have their say. The 'Public Vote' is underway, and they can have the opportunity to vote for their favourite festive window display.

The shops taking part can be found on the town council's social media pages.

"The Town Council extends heartfelt gratitude to every business and organisation that has participated in making Newtown sparkle with festive colour. The exceptional standard of creativity and effort has transformed our town into a spectacle of festive colour," said a statement.
