Talk to explore history of Newtown’s Penygloddfa

06/10/2026 @ 06:33

The history of one of Newtown’s most important industrial areas will be explored at a meeting of the Newtown and District Civic Society next week.

“Penygloddfa: Newtown’s Industrial Suburb” will be the subject of the society’s October meeting on Tuesday, 13 October.

John Evans, curator of the Newtown Textile Museum, will tell the story of the development of Penygloddfa and its role in the town’s industrial past.

The area became closely associated with Newtown’s textile industry, with its development forming an important part of the wider growth of the town.

Mr Evans will also look at the importance of the Long Bridge to the development of Penygloddfa, as the bridge marks its 200th anniversary this year.

The meeting will take place at the Crescent Christian Centre in Milford Road, Newtown, at 2pm.

Admission is £3 for non-members of the Civic Society.
