Your amazing response following our hospitals petition plea
We asked, and you responded in your hundreds yesterday after we joined the campaign to stop Powys Teaching Health Board decimating services in the area.
Yesterday morning, we awoke to find around 2,000 people had signed a new petition launched to oppose the potential changes that will see Welshpool lose all of its beds, X-Ray facility and Minor Injuries Unit, while Newtown will become a main hub in north Powys.
And this is just the first phase of cuts that casts a long-term shadow over the hospital's future as a whole.
But the people are fighting back and yesterday we broke our neutrality stance on issues to urge you, our amazing readers, to sign the petition which needs 10,000 signatures to be debated by the Welsh Government.
And, this morning, we have seen the petition smash through the 4,000-mark (4,329 as of 6am), doubling the number of names signed up in just 24 hours.
But we’re not stopping here. Let’s try to get this through the 10,000 mark ahead of the health board’s public events that get underway in October. Your voice can make a difference.
