Powys County Council has announced revised recycling dates for the August Bank Holiday week, following months of disruption which triggered a political row over the service.
Recycling will be collected one day later than usual:
- Monday, August 31 moves to Tuesday, September 1
- Tuesday, September 1 moves to Wednesday, September 2
- Wednesday, September 2 moves to Thursday, September 3
- Thursday, September 3 moves to Friday, September 4
- Friday, September 4 moves to Saturday, September 5
Black bins, purple sacks and garden waste will be collected as normal, including on Bank Holiday Monday.
The changes follow serious problems after new collection routes were introduced in March. Missed and delayed collections prompted complaints across Powys, a proposed vote of no confidence in then portfolio holder Cllr Jackie Charlton and the transfer of responsibility for the service to Cllr Richard Church.
Councillors subsequently backed a review of the service, while the authority introduced additional vehicles and strengthened management support. The council said reported missed collections fell from 3,494 in March to 1,759 in June.
Cllr Church said: “We are asking residents to check their recycling collection day for the August Bank Holiday and the following week, and put their recycling out on the revised day.
“There will be no change to the collections for non-recyclable waste and garden waste.”
Recycling boxes should be put out by 7am on the revised collection day, or earlier if extremely hot weather is expected.
