Church Street cordoned off as police investigate “major incident”

A part of Welshpool town centre has been cordoned off this morning following what had been described as a “serious incident” last night.

A multi-agency response, which appears to have included officers from both Dyfed-Powys and West Mercia police forces along with specialist forensic and firearms officers, has been on the scene since around 3am this morning.

Investigations are centering around Church Street close to The Cross, and Traffic Wales North & Mid are reporting that it could remain closed until “later today” and to avoid the town centre.

The short stretch of road from NFU Mutual to The Cross is closed off complentely.
