More than 2,100 bras were laid out across Newtown last weekend as part of a community fundraising campaign supporting breast cancer research.

Maldwyn Harriers Ladies said the display at Hafan yr Afon on Saturday, marked the culmination of a 12-week collection drive involving residents, local groups and businesses.

In total, 2,141 bras were gathered, enough to stretch approximately one mile, and £2,739.75 was raised for the charity Against Breast Cancer.

The installation, described by organisers as a “mile of bras”, was created at the town’s riverside café and community venue, where the items were arranged to form a continuous line.

The group said the campaign was launched in response to growing awareness of breast cancer and aimed to combine fundraising with a visual display to engage the public.

Additional funding support from Barclays contributed to the final total, organisers confirmed.

All proceeds from the initiative will go to Against Breast Cancer to support its research and awareness work.

Maldwyn Harriers Ladies said the collection effort drew contributions from across the Newtown area over the three-month period, with the final display bringing the campaign to a close.
