Damage forced Easter weekend closure of disabled public toilet

08/04/2026 @ 03:12

A disabled public toilet in Newtown was temporarily put out of action after its lock was tampered with over the Easter weekend.

The incident happened at the Gravel, where an unknown individual forced a key into the disabled toilet door lock that was not compatible with the mechanism. The action caused the lock to jam and become inoperable.

Newtown Town Council’s operations team had to dismantle the lock to remove the key before carrying out repairs to restore it to working order.

The issue is due to be discussed by councillors at the next meeting of the town council’s Services Committee.
