Old waste bin frames along a pathway in Newtown could be removed after concerns they are being used for dog waste and household rubbish dumping.
Open Newtown has written to Powys County Council asking for the removal of historical bin frames located along the pathway beside the Trehafren housing estate.
The issue was highlighted in the organisation’s latest land management report, which said the frames were attracting fly tipping because the bins themselves will not be replaced.
The report states: “We’re writing to PCC to request that they remove the historical waste bin frames from the pathway alongside Trehafren Housing Estate, to deter dog waste fly tippers, as we understand that they won’t be replacing these bins, due to vandalism and household fly tipping.”
Open Newtown manages more than 100 acres of parkland and green spaces across Newtown under a long term lease agreement with the town and county councils.
Its responsibilities include grass cutting, tree maintenance and litter management across areas such as Dolerw Park, Trehafren Fields and Vaynor Fields.
The organisation said monitoring of green spaces and regular inspections help identify issues such as littering and damage so they can be addressed quickly.

Newtown park paths could be upgraded to improve accessibility
Informal walking paths across Newtown’s parks could be upgraded to improve accessibility and reduce muddy conditions.
Open Newtown says it has identified several well used routes across its green spaces that could benefit from being developed into proper mobility pathways.
The potential improvements were outlined in the organisation’s latest land management report.
It states: “We’re aware of some informal pathways that would benefit from an extension of our mobility pathways, to reduce mud and standing puddles and we will factor this work into our long term repair work schedule.”
The upgrades could help improve access for people using wheelchairs, mobility aids or pushchairs while also protecting grass areas from damage caused by heavy footfall during wet weather.
Open Newtown manages more than 100 acres of green spaces in Newtown, including Dolerw Park, Trehafren Fields and Vaynor Fields, under a service level agreement with Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.
Any pathway improvements would form part of ongoing development and maintenance work across the town’s parks.
