‘Only travel if necessary’ warning for north Powys

Dyfed-Powys Police have issued a warning tonight to “only travel if your journey is necessary” after reporting “extremely poor road conditions across Montgpomeryshire".

It’s been a bitterly cold day, with temperatures scarcely getting above freezing, and they could plummet to as low as -5° tonight and into mid-morning tomorrow.

Taking to Facebook this evening, Dyfed-Powys Police wrote: “Road conditions are extremely poor across Montgomeryshire and surrounding rural areas due to ice. Only travel if your journey is necessary; Plan extra time for your journey; Increase your distances; Slow down.”

The gritters have been out again this afternoon, but pavements, car parks and untreated roads are proving treacherous.

Forecasters are predicting that the cold snap will continue well into next week, and beyond.
