New weekend weather warnings for snow and ice

02/01/2026 @ 04:41

After the forecasters got it spot on this morning, they are warning us of more snow and ice over the weekend and right through to Monday lunchtime.

We awoke to treacherous conditions in the Welshpool area with snow covering the higher ground and ice making road and pavement conditions tricky.

And after originally thinking we were done for now, the Met Office has issued yellow warnings for snow and ice over the next 72 hours.

The first warning comes in at 6pm tonight (Friday), and will remain in place until 10am tomorrow, with a second warning triggered for 3pm on Sunday right through until noon on Monday.

Temperatures are expected to sink through freezing to as low as -5° or beyond.

The long-term forecast into next week doesn't look much better with low tempretures and the chance of snow continuing.

Here’s a reminder of what to expect with a yellow warning:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

The advice, as always, with these short warnings is to avoid travel by foot or in the car unless absolutely necessary.
