A glimpse into Montgomeryshire’s medieval past will be shared in Newtown later this month as the Powysland Club hosts its next public lecture.
The talk, “Gwernygo: Abbey Cwm Hir’s Grange in Kerry - Investigating a Thirteenth Century Welsh Monastic Grange,” will take place at 3pm on Saturday, 22 November, at Plas Dolerw.
The lecture will be delivered by researcher Carrie White, who will delve into the history and role of Gwernygo, a monastic grange once linked to the Cistercian Abbey Cwm Hir. Granges played a key part in supporting monastic communities, particularly through agriculture and estate management, and the site at Kerry is considered one of the most intriguing in the region.
The event is open to all and free to attend, with the Powysland Club encouraging anyone with an interest in local history, archaeology, or Montgomeryshire’s medieval heritage to join.
