D-Day celebrations planned for next month

8D-Day celebrations are being planned for the 6 June in Newtown.

The town council confirmed last night at its Economy and Environment Committee that acts and performances were being planned, including the Newtown Silver Band for the commemoration of World War 2 D-Day.

Councillors were told schools and other groups had been approached to take part.

Town councillors approved a £3,000 budget for a D-Day event in November last year. 

Cllr Chris Jones said fish and chips were part of the time and he was prepared to approach local fish and chip businesses to support the event.

More details are expected to be announced by the council in the coming weeks.
