Top award for Llanfair law student

A former Llanfair Caereinion student is celebrating after being awarded a prize for outstanding achievements in her university studies. 

Francesca Corstorphine is in the final year of a LLB Law with Criminology degree at the University of Worcester and has been awarded the Toby Hooper KC Prize for Best Overall Performance in Criminal Law for her second year of study. 

“I feel proud to have achieved this and thankful the University has appreciated and awarded my hard work last year,” she said. 

The university said Francesca knew from a young age that she wanted to work in the law. Throughout her time as a pupil at Ysgol Uwchradd Caereinion, she thrived on learning about how the British legal system operated. 

So when she was looking for a university, she was drawn to the University of Worcester. 

“I liked Worcester as a place and the lecturers and Head of Law really won me over,” she remembers. “There are so many opportunities available here and everyone is really supportive.” 

Francesca is hoping to work in the criminal justice system when she finishes her degree next year. “I knew right from primary age that I wanted to work in the Law and to help people,” she said. “And now I’m nearly there with it.” 

“I have enjoyed my time at university, making friends and learning some really interesting things. I have made memories for life,” she added.  

A number of prizes and Academic Scholarship Awards are awarded to students at the University of Worcester each year, generously supported by local philanthropists and businesses, recognising student achievements.

These students achieved highly in their studies and it is wonderful to be able to recognise their dedication and commitment during the last academic year. Hopefully this award will inspire them to further academic success in the future.
