Residents are to be given the chance to discuss cuts to local bus services at a drop-in session in Newtown later this month.
Powys County Council has revealed plans to slash its public transport budget by £500,000 which will mean many services ending in the area.
The council says it wants to maintain priority routes linking communities and has put out two options to public consultation.
Both options will mean a reduction in the number of bus services on offer in the county but aim to sustain key routes and ensure residents get the most equitable service from the budget available,” according to the council.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor John Brunt said: “The financial pressures we are under mean that we need to reduce the current spend. I would urge residents to get involved in the consultation and have their say about which option would, in their view, provide the most robust and sustainable network for the county going forward.”
Views can be given via an online consultation which is available on the council’s website www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay
The consultation page provides details of the current bus provision plus two options that the council have drawn up and a survey to capture views. Copies of the proposals are available in local libraries, including Newtown, Montgomery, Llanfair Caereinion and Llanidloes.
The consultation closes on Monday 29 June.
A number of drop in sessions are being held including at Newtown Bus Station on Monday, 22 June and The Institute at Llanfair Caereinion on Wednesday, 10 June.
