Cup fever is gripping Newtown

Support is mounting from all parts of the Newtown community for Newtown FC as it prepares for Saturday's FAW Welsh Cup Final against The New Saints on Saturday.

Newtown will play the Oswestry-based club in their first Welsh Cup Final since 1897.

Up to 2,500 people will pack Latham Park for the game with supporters expected from all over the UK to Town attempt to lift the trophy for the first time in 188 years.

Among the supporters is Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George.

"We're all wishing the club and team all the best for Saturday. The whole town is behind them and it's a great event for us to all celebrate," he said.

Shops and businesses throughout the town are putting up posters and flags to show support.

The club has been visiting schools and organisations this week to meet children and supporters.

The match kicks off at 2.30pm.
