A Cefn Coch man who was honoured with a British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours list has received his medal.
Mr Maldwyn Evans of Cefn Coch was presented with his medal by the Lord Lieutenant of Powys, the Hon Mrs Shan Legge-Bourke, at a presentation event at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells for his voluntary service to the community.
For more than 37 years Mr Evans was a gardener at Gregynog Hall, Tregynon. He started work when one of the Davies sisters who owned it was still alive.
He was responsible for planting the renowned Golden Mile of daffodils between Adfa and Cefn Coch in the Llanllugan Parish.
He also had the distinction of three times being awarded first prize for the Best Kept Cemetery in Britain and Northern Ireland.
