J.D. Wetherspoon is to keep the name of the Black Boy pub in Newtown following a campaign started by MyNewtown.
MyNewtown revealed in January how the pub chain planned to change the pub name to Llewlyn ap Gruffydd when it reopens the Broad Street business in May.
But the name changed caused uproar when MyNewtown revealed the plans with calls for other local names to be used instead.
J.D. Wetherspoon has now agreed to keep the name after a local competition urged people to come up with a name.
A spokesman for the pub chain said The Black Boy had not bene their chosen name for the pub, but they were going with local opinion.
Cllr Joy Jons, who questioned the oriignal idea to change the name, welcomed today's news.
"Common sense has prevailed. The people of Newtown have been listened to. It would have always been known as The Black Boy anyway, but thanks Wetherspoons for listening," she said.
