18/06/2012 @ 03:15

A team of Army cadets from Montgomeryshire has brought home gold from a recent inter-force cadet competition in Shropshire and will now represent Wales in a UK final.

Cadets from the Navy, Army and Air Force took part in the Welsh Regional First Aid Competition held at Nesscliffe Camp neart Shrewsbury. The final placing in the Army Cadet Force section was Gwent and Powys ACF and Dyfed and Glamorgan ACF.

Following a nail biting tie breaker, both counties drew level after the team and individual tests. In the end it was all down to the final individual Diagnostic Test which saw the team representing Gwent & Powys ACF being awarded Gold.

The four cadets and their team trainer, Lieutenant Karen Smith, who are based in the Montgomeryshire area of Powys will travel down in October to Sandhurst Military Academy to represent Wales in the National Competition. They are Sgt Jared Williams (Newtown), L./Cpl Jake Tranter (Llanidloes), Cpl Ryan Davies (Welshpool) and Cpl Matthew Davies (Llanidloes).

Not only did the team win the gold, but L/Cpl Jake Tranter (Llanidloes Detachment), was awarded the highest individual score across all the services, with Cpl Davies (Llanidloes Detachment) being awarded third overall in the ACF section.
