Newtown Post Office move confirmed

27/02/2025 @ 05:21

Newtown's Post Office will move to new premises later in March.

It follows a consultation into a relocation to Market Street last year.

The move is necessary due to the expiry of the lease at its existing location on Shortbridge Street.

From Wednesday, 26 March, the Post Office will operate from 6 Market Street, the former site of Peter Jacks Family Butchers. The last day of service at the Shortbridge Street branch will be Thursday, 13 March, closing at 5.30pm.

It will be closed for a short time and customers can visit alternative Post Office branches in Tregynon (located at The Garage, SY16 3EL) and Caersws (at The Cross, Station Road, SY17 5EQ).

The new premises, currently undergoing refurbishment, will house a convenience store alongside the Post Office. The branch will maintain its current range of postal products and services, with the same postmaster overseeing operations.

Opening hours will remain unchanged: Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday from 9am to 12 noon. The new branch will feature three serving positions—two traditional counters and an additional service point integrated within the retail counter.

Sarah Cottrell, Post Office Regional Change Manager, said: “We are delighted that the current postmaster has secured new premises, ensuring that vital services for the community continue uninterrupted.”
