Newtown's public toilet issues continue

16/11/2022 @ 09:58
One of Newtown's public toilet blocks could be refurbished or completely refurbished and converted into single entry cubicles accessible from the individual exterior doors.

Consideration is expected to be given to extensive work in the future by Newtown Town Council. It follows several meetings discussing vandalism and the state of the toilets at the Gravel and Back Lane car parks.

Both toilets are managed and maintained by the town council. But there has been concern over the cleanliness and vandaslism at both.

At this week's town council Services Committee a verbal report was provided on a "working group" meeting at the end of October.

The special meeting, called following concerns raised by committee chairman, Cllr Val Howard, discussed ways of ensuring the toilets are clean as well as ways of improving them.

Increasing cleaning, bringing cleaning in-house, charging for entry and future contracts were discussed.

Cllr Daryl Gwilt suggested a new toilet block where cubicles were accessed through indiviudal external doors to help cut vandlism with the the current toilet blocks.

Cllr Jackie Molloy Davies said that system would also be inclusive to all.

The council will consider the matter and the longer-term future of the toilets.
