Where's the vaccine centre going?

The Newtown-based national covid vaccination centre is set to move next month.

Although no official announcement has been made, the Maldwyn Leisure Centre, where the centre has been based throughout the pandemic, has said in a Facebook post it will be re-opening its courts, sports hall and changing rooms from 14 February.

Currently, the Powys Teaching Health Board uses the sports hall and some other parts of the leisure centre for vaccinations and the booster programme.

Thousands of people have passed through the centre for their vaccinations, with many volunteers from the area helping medical and even military staff at times.

The vaccination programme could be moved to locations such as the Park Street Day Centre which remains closed. Powys County Council closed the centre due to the pandemic and according to a report due to go before councillors this month, it is likely to remain closed for most of this year.
