Demolition gear moves in

Work demolishing Bethel Chapel in Newtown is expected to start imminently.

Demolition equipment has arrived at the site along New Road. The road has been partially closed since the roof of the chapel collapsed in September.

It is not known if the whole building will be demolished or if parts of it will be to make it safe.

Answers are still being demanded as to why the building was left to deteriorate by the owner and no enforcement action was taken by Powys County Council.

The council had undertaken a survey of the building before the collapse and said no enforcement action was needed.

The road had been fully closed for sometime before being partially opened one way.
