It's official - Christmas begins today in Newtown

Christmas officially begins in Newtown today (Saturday).
The annual Kicking Off Christmas event returns after a year of absence due to the pandemic.
The Christmas lights will be officially switched on from the Town Hall Grounds this evening.
Local traders will have stalls in the Bear Lanes and retailers throughout the town will be taking part to welcome shoppers and visitors.
The stalls in Bear Lanes will be open from 5pm.
At 6pm a light and sounds event begins at the Town Hall grounds, including fireworks.
It will be followed by the official switching on of the town's Christmas lights.

Local businesses will also be taking part in the Christmas window competition. Judges will be going around the town this afternoon checking out the displays before a winner is announced.
