Answers demanded over Bethel Chapel

07/10/2021 @ 07:01
Questions remain unanswered as to how and why Bethel Chapel in Newtown was left to decay into the state before its roof collapsed last week.

As reported by MyNewtown last week, the town council has written to Powys County Council demanding to know why an "incorrect" assessment was made on the state of the building. A planning officer said there was no reason to take enforcement action to make the building safe.

New Road has since been closed in the town due to ongoing fears over the safety of the building.

There have also been questions over the cost of the work since the roof collapsed prior to a partial demolition this week.

The town council had written to the county council several times raising concerns about he state of the building along with other individuals in then town in recent years.

MyNewtown has asked Powys County Council to explain how the assessment not to take enforcement action was made and how much it has cost the tax payer since the incident last week.
