Befriending service to launch soon

Created on 14/09/2021 @ 07:20
A digital befriending service in Newtown has been awarded a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All.

Self-Able has received the money for its initiative to help people who are unable to get out and meet friends or people.

The Self-Digi-Art project will help up to 10 people in the first year.

"Celf-Digi-Art will be an online befriending project using art.  We will have some tablets with data SIMs to loan out to help people who don’t have the tech or need support to socialise online, and we will match up pairs of befrienders and befriendees who will be able to meet online and support each other by doing art together," said a spokesperson.

"We will support the befrienders with volunteer and simple art training, and hope to match up at least ten pairs of befrienders/befriendees in the first year."

The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes, is the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
