Spring clean campaign highlights rubbish left on streets

22/06/2021 @ 12:00
Twelve bags of rubbish and eight bags of recyclable material was collected in just two hours by volunteers taking part in a litter-picking project.

Volunteers worked their way around Llanidloes Road, Vaynor and Trehafren as part of the Spring Clean Cymru campaign.

Other communities in the area have also been taking part in the campaign that ran from 28 May to 13 June.

“It has been heartening to see all the clean-up activity across the county over the past few weeks.” says Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Recycling and Waste.

“The past 18 months has made many of us really appreciate how important a clean and safe outdoor environment is for our health and well-being. But since lockdown restrictions have eased, there has been a real sense of frustration at the increase in litter, much of which could easily have been recycled.

“Spring Clean Cymru was the perfect opportunity for us to take a stand and declare that litter is not acceptable, and our wonderful Powys communities did not disappoint. There is no doubt that everywhere is looking great after a couple of weeks of TLC with people across the county doing their bit to clean-up the streets, verges, parks and the outdoor spaces on their doorsteps. Diolch pawb.”
