Newtown's last remaining red telephone box is to be saved and could become a lifesaver.
Newtown Town Council is adopting the phone box next to the Regent Centre in Back Lane from BT. The legal paperwork expected to be completed within weeks.
It is understood the phone box could be used to house a defibrillator.
BT has been offering phone boxes for adoption for several years throughout the UK. Many communities have secured them as information booths or for defibrillators.
Cllr Richard Williams told town councillors the paperwork was close to being completed.
