23/02/2021 @ 08:14
Town councillors have been thanked for supporting a scheme to provide free Sunday lunches to those who find it difficult to provide their own in Newtown.

The town council has awarded £2,000 from its community fund to a project based at All Saints Church and supported by the Newtown Network to cook and deliver Sunday lunches around the town.

Canon Rev Nia Wyn Morris, said: “Thank you sincerely to our Mayor, Cllr David Selby, and all Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council members for the generous cheque of £2000 from the Community Fund we received this month towards the Sunday Lunches."

Cllr Selby and his wife support the initiative and with other volunteers help deliver the lunches on a Sunday afternoon.

Cllr David Selby Mayor of Newtown, said: "All Saints Church working with the Newtown Network has demonstrated a wonderful commitment in providing a regular Sunday lunch at home for those who find it difficult to provide their own.

"Over 80 meals are provided weekly around Newtown. Well done those in the kitchen and those who deliver to the homes. The Town Council grant will pay for this service whilst lock down continues."
