A Newtown travel agent has hit out at an online troll that has been harassing it through social media, posting hundreds of comments.

Polka Dot Travel, which has offices in Newtown and Welshpool, says a number of fake accounts set up by who they believe is a single individual, have posted hundreds of comments across its social media sites.

Today, the company posted a statement saying it was struggling to delete them and would instead focus on its customers.

The issue highlights the ability of people to easily troll companies and individuals on social media.

The statement by Polka Dot Travel said: "Harassment Campaign. We are currently the subject of an intense harassment and trolling campaign from one individual who has posted 100’s of comments across all Polka Dot Travel social media pages.  This individual is also using several ‘fake’ profiles.

"These messages are relentless with the aim of having both a negative and detrimental effect on us as a business.

"We spent time yesterday deleting these posts which, due to the volume took a considerable amount of time and quite frankly due to the intensity we struggled to keep up!!

"Unfortunately this time consuming problem took us away for looking after what matters most to us, our customers.

"We’ve decided today we won’t spend any time deleting these and will leave him to it, we’d prefer to concentrate on our customers that matter most to us.

"We’re sorry to have to post this but now feel like we have no choice but to stand up for ourselves.

"We absolutely love our company and our customers, we have an immense loyal following.

"We will today continue to do what we do best and that’s look after our lovely Polka Dot Customers!

"Please ignore the comments. Stay safe and look after yourselves. In the mean time we will continue to look after you."
