Speeding motorist near school was drug driving

A motorist who was stopped for speeding near schools along Newtown's Plantation Lane was then found to be drug driving.

Speed checks were being undertaken by police officers from Newtown Police when the incident happened at 9.30am on 10 January, it has emerged.

An officer with Newtown Roads Policing Unit Tweeted: "Speed checks conducted on Plantation land outside the school at 9.30am. Driver stopped doing 32mph in a 20mph restriction.

"Then arrested for possession of cannabis and failed a roadside drugwipe."
