'Splinters of Light' to light up church interior

A local church is to be filled with splinters of light representing its stained glass windows as part of a project called 'Splinters of Heaven.'

On Friday 6th December, between 4pm and 9pm, St Idloes's Church in Llanidloes  will offer a unique opportunity for people of all ages to experience what it calls "a festival of sound and light called Splinters of Heaven."

The church interior will be brought to life using an immersive sound and light display created by Andy McKeown, an internationally renowned Shrewsbury-based artist.

Andy has taken hundreds of images of the stained glass windows in St Idloes's Church, including its stunning millennium window.

Using interactive media software to create his “splinters”, he will saturate the church in light and sound, and transform it into a giant kaleidoscope as the building is lit up by thousands of moving shards of light that will fill even the darkest corners.

Artist Andy McKeown says of his work: “I have a passion for stained glass, and my Splinters of Heaven installations aim to light serene spaces and create an ambient space where people can let the experience drift over them for as short or long a time as they wish.

"In St Idloes, visitors will be able to see the church in a completely different light, and spot things they may never have seen before, such as a tiny spider in the corner of a piece of glass.”
