Newtown Food Festival this weekend

Newtown Food Festival takes place this weekend, celebrating seven years since it first started.

The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday 7-8 September at the Town Hall Ground off Back Lane.

The event is free and will include food and music, featuring around 40 independent food and drink producers, a music programme and a mini family festival of activities in the Children’s Village.

As well as daytime entertainment, some will also take place on Saturday evening.

The timetable includes:

SATURDAY 11am - Saxophone Sundae 12noon - Abi Foster Music 1pm - Tommy Mills 2pm - Ben Smith 3pm - The Secret Sextet 4:15pm - The Klezmonauts

SUNDAY 12noon - Newtown Silver Band 1:15pm - Newtown & District Male Voice Choir 2:15pm - Maldwyn Strings 3:30pm - Ffonic

"As well as showcasing some local produce, the festival has an international flavour including our French Village which is stocked with produce from our twinned town in Les Herbiers, 2019 marks 20 years of twinning," said a food festival spokesperson.

"We have a great line up in the Festival Kitchen this year...with artisan chocolate making, award winning chef, Syrian dishes and more. Plus, new for this year, Relish will be hosting a pop-up Mediterranean Feast on Saturday evening from 6.30pm, pop into Oriel Davies for tickets."

The children’s village plays host to a popular range of activities returning again with Woodland Classroom, Junk Percussion, Rush glitter and face painting, Zu Aerial and Magik Incorporated. New to 2019 will be The Traditional Fairground Co.
